JCTU, Gov't to sign wage agreement this afternoon

The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) is expected to sign its new wage agreement with the government at 4 o'clock this afternoon.

Vice President of the JCTU, Helene Davis Whyte, says so far seven of the 11 unions represented by the confederation in the wage negotiations have signed off on the deal.

Davis Whyte says she’s hoping that the additional four unions will accept the deal ahead of the signing ceremony later today.

Meanwhile, Davis Whyte is disputing recent media reports that the majority of member unions had rejected the government’s wage offer.

The government had agreed to give the confederation a $4,000-across-the-board increase.

According to the JCTU Vice President, it was the unions themselves which suggested the $4,000 increase and not the government.
