House Speaker Pearnel Charles dismisses concern about hearing ability

Pearnel Charles is dismissing concerns about his hearing ability as he assumes the role of speaker of Jamaica's House of Representatives.

"The (former) President of the senate was blind and he held up," Charles told The Gleaner as he made his way inside Gordon House.

He was referring to the immediate past Senate president Floyd Morris

Charles said he will be fine and there should be no worries about his hearing.

The North Central Clarendon representative is assisted by hearing-aid.

He was sworn in after being nominated by fellow Government MP, Everald Warmington the representative for South West St Catherine.

In keeping with parliamentary tradition, the speaker was dragged by two government members to his chair.
