McKenzie to meet with JPS on street light issue
Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie has indicated that he will be meeting with representatives from the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) this week to discuss the current arrangements regarding street lights.
Addressing yesterday’s monthly meeting of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC), McKenzie said he was dissatisfied with the current arrangements, which he said give the JPS total control of street lights in Jamaica.
He expressed concern that there is no timeframe for when the street lights will be fixed or retrofitted.
The local government minister said he will be making a submission to Cabinet on the matter as he is of the view the current arrangements need to be reviewed.
McKenzie said he met with Energy Minister, Dr Wheatley, last week on the issue.
The JPS is owed in excess of $3.7 billion for street lights by the government.
