Shirley says Port Authority addressing security concerns
President and CEO of the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) Professor Gordon Shirley says the organisation is addressing the issue of port security which he says remains one of the biggest concerns.
Professor Shirley said in order to move the country to the next tier; there must be further improvement in security.
He says an improved security system will make the PAJ the port of choice in the region.
Professor Shirley was speaking with The Gleaner/Power106 News Centre this morning following the official launch of Jamaica’s Port Community System.
This is an electronic platform that will see the reduction in the time used to process cargo, documents for imports, exports and trans-shipment.
Meanwhile, Minister with responsibility for Water, Works and Housing Dr Horace Chang describes the Jamaica Port Community System as a game-changing initiative that will redefine the Jamaican Trade and Logistics Industry.
He said this initiative will facilitate efficient trade services and reduce the cost and time of completing transactions.
