Caribbean disaster emergency response agency on standby to assist Jamaica

The Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) says it remains on standby to offer support to Jamaica in the event of a severe impact from Hurricane Matthew.

CDEMA Executive director of Ronald Jackson says the agency has been having discussions with Jamaica about the potential number of persons who are likely to be affected and the kind of support that would be needed if the island is severely hit.

Jackson says along with Jamaica, CDEMA is monitoring The Bahamas, Haiti and the Turks and Caicos islands.

However, he says Haiti will be given priority response from CDEMA.
