Electoral authorities not quite ready for election, intensifying preparations
The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) says it is not quite ready for the country's 16th local government election set for Monday November 28.
Nomination Day is Friday November 11.
However, the ECJ says it is intensifying preparation.
ECJ chairperson Dorothy Pine-McLarty says the Director of Election Orrette Fisher today held an emergency meeting to discuss election preparations with the staff of the commission.
Pine-McLarty says the ECJ has all election day trainers in place and about 80 per cent of election day workers.
She also said the ECJ staff will be working overtime to ensure that the poll is conducted smoothly.
McLarty also says preparations will be made easier since the elections will be held on a Monday as this will allow workers to set up polling stations on the weekend.
