Some Clarendon children see violence as normal – guidance counsellor

A Clarendon primary school guidance counsellor is raising concern that some children in the parish have now accepted violence as a normal way of life.

Last year, Clarendon recorded 456 major crimes which included more than 130 murders.

Speaking at a Gleaner Editors’ Forum in the parish yesterday guidance counsellor at the Effortville Primary School, Christine Russell-Lewis, described the situation as frightening.

Russell-Lewis told reporters that some students become afraid when the violence starts.

However, she said others see it as just another day and this is a worrying trend for the parish.
