Disgruntled Cocoa Industry Board workers in Richmond, St Mary stage protest

Disgruntled workers at the Cocoa Industry Board's facility in Richmond, St Mary this morning padlocked the gates preventing access to persons protesting outstanding wage payments.

The workers claim they are yet to receive increases due from 2015.

Omar Reid, who identified himself as a union delegate, said several meetings have been held to discuss the issue of the outstanding wage increases.

However, he says the issue remains and the workers are unable to wait any longer.

Reid says workers will remain off the job until they get a satisfactory response from the management of the Cocoa Industry Board.

Errol Williamson, the manager of the Richmond facility, says the secretary/manager of the Cocoa Industry Board head office in Kingston has been informed of the situation and he's awaiting a response.

Meanwhile, he says the facility remains closed as a result of the protest.
