St Thomas woman escapes after being abducted by unregistered taxi operator
The St Thomas Police are reporting an increase in reports of abductions in the parish over the past three weeks.
In the latest incident yesterday, a female passenger escaped after being abducted by a 'robot' taxi operator in the vicinity of Albion.
It is reported that about 2 o'clock in the afternoon the woman, who was on her way to Kingston, entered the unregistered taxi at Poor Man's Corner.
The vehicle reportedly had a male and a female passenger but soon after they got out.
It is further reported that the driver later turned off the main road on to a dirt road and informed that he was going to pick up another passenger.
The woman reportedly got suspicious and asked to be let out of the taxi.
Her request was ignored and the driver instead activated the car’s central lock system and sped up.
The woman managed to escape from the car and was chased by the driver but outran him.
She was assisted by a passerby to a police station and later to hospital to treat wounds she sustained during her escape.
Crime Chief, Detective Inspector Samuel Barnes, is urging members of the public to be on alert when travelling alone and to desist from taking 'robot' taxis.
He says information received indicate that one of the main perpetrators wears a dreadlock hairstyle and drives a white Nissan Tiida motorcar.
Barnes says another perpetrator has a shaved head and drives a blue car.
According to the cop, the registration plates on both vehicles are false and the police are yet to determine the men’s identities.
He is urging St Thomas residents to report suspicious persons to the police.
