The police are searching for a schoolboy who allegedly used a knife to stab another at the Penwood High School in Kingston on Monday afternoon.

The injured student is nursing a punctured lung in hospital after being stabbed while trying to stop a fight.

The police say about 2:00 p.m., the alleged perpetrator and another male were embroiled in a fight when another student intervened.

One of the students pulled a knife which he used to stab the peacemaker.

The alleged attacker fled the scene while the injured student was taken to hospital.

In an interview with The Gleaner, Dionne Rennie, the mother of the injured boy, expressed surprise that her son almost lost his life while trying to stop a fight.

"I am really upset because he was not involved in the fight. He went to part the fight and this is the result for wanting peace," Rennie said.

"How can a student be in school with a knife?" she asked.
