JDF corporal, wife held in ganja bust offered $600,000 bail
Jamaica Defence Force Corporal Dwight Stephens and his wife Stacey Ann were today each offered $600,000.00 bail when they appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court.
As a condition of bail, they are both required to report to the police daily and to surrender their travel documents.
They are also banned from all ports of entry and exit.
They were ordered to return to court on July 26.
The police reported that on May 11, 2018 they arrested the couple during operations in Greater Portmore, St. Catherine where over 600 pounds of ganja, cash totalling $265,000, a licensed firearm along with ammunition, and two motor cars were also seized.
The couple was subsequently charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps to export ganja, using premises for drugs, conspiracy, and possession of criminal property.
In applying for bail, their lawyer Peter Champagnie alluded to the fact one of the accused, upon being formally interviewed by the police, told them that where the ganja was found in the house was occupied by a helper and her common husband.
Champagnie also submitted that soldier was suffering from a medical condition and so too does a child of the couple.
