NWC says no to amnesty

No water bill amnesty at this time.

That was the declaration from Mark Barnett, president of the National Water Commission (NWC), who said: “it’s simply not on”.

Barnett was speaking today at a press conference in New Kingston to provide an update on the company’s Kingston and St. Andrew Non-Revenue Water Co-management programme.

“We have done enough; we have given enough amnesty and citizens or customers who benefited from that amnesty don’t uphold their commitment,” Barnett asserted, adding that not even the service charge was being paid.

He noted that in other countries people are obliged to pay for their utilities. “Why not in Jamaica,” he asked.
