1000 pounds of ganja seized in St Elizabeth, three men arrested
Three men were arrested and 1000 pounds of ganja seized last night by the police in Parrottee, St Elizabeth.
The police say they also seized a Toyota Hiace van, a Honda CRV and a Toyota Altis motorcar.
They say members of the Area 3 Narcotics Police were on an operation in the community about 9:30 when the men were allegedly seen unloading bags from the Hiace van.
The police reportedly attempted to intercept the men but they ran.
They were chased and subsequently accosted by the police.
According to the police, bags containing packages of compressed cured ganja were allegedly found inside the van.
The men were taken to the Black River Police Station where they are expected to be questioned later this week in the presence of their attorneys.
The police theorise that the ganja, which has an estimated street value of $4 million, was destined to be part of the drugs-for-guns trade.
Since the start of the year, the Narcotics Police have made several large ganja busts along the south-western coastline of the country, which stretches from Rocky Point in Clarendon to Savanna-la-Mar in Westmoreland.
