In this screen grab, principal Tina Reid points to the area from which the LCD television set was stolen.

Four days after staff and students of the Mocho Primary and Infant School celebrated their triumphs in the Grade Six Achievement Test, they turned up this morning to find several classrooms burglarised and equipment missing.

"It was really a heartbreak," principal Tina Reid told The Gleaner.

She said a television set was stolen from one room and a bottle of cooking oil removed from the canteen.

However, of more significance was the damage to several doors and the ransacked classrooms forcing the cancellation of school today.

"It was not something you want to hear coming out of a weekend of success," Reid said.

The matter has been reported to the police and the Education Ministry and Reid said building officers should visit the school on Tuesday to assess the damage.

Reid said school is also expected to resume Tuesday after being called off today.

She also said while the incident has dampened spirits at the school, it will not derail their efforts to achieve.

"We are resilient," she said.
