The People's National Party (PNP) says its Members of Parliament and candidates have recommitted themselves to serving the people of Jamaica through community engagement, strong representation, and development so that the island can become the best place to live, work and raise families.

The recommitment was made at a party retreat at Hope Gardens in St Andrew yesterday where issues such as outreach, constituency development, renewal strategies, communication within constituencies, voter engagement, mentorship for new candidates and rebuilding party structures were discussed.

A PNP statement says that PNP President Dr Peter Phillips reminded the members that being the people's representatives is a critical and honourable national service, but no easy feat, especially from the Opposition benches.

It says he emphasised that service above self is the mantra of PNP political representation and has been so from inception.

“Dr Phillips reminded that founding member Norman Manley was a world respected barrister who set aside his global practice in order to represent the Jamaican workers who were in a battle for better wages and improved working conditions,”.

“He said the PNP must return to this mandate and maintain this age-old tradition with firm resolve and the highest level of integrity”.

The PNP says former Prime Minister and PNP leader P.J. Patterson, who addressed the retreat, encouraged the Party to keep its focus on people representation as that is the PNP brand.
