The assault case against entertainer Gully Bop has been transferred to the Drug Treatment Court after a parish court heard today that he is struggling with cocaine abuse.

That court serves as an alternative to incarceration for drug-dependent offenders, who are provided with treatment and rehabilitation under judicial supervision.

Gully Bop, whose real name is Robert Malcolm, reappeared in the St Thomas Parish Court today on allegations that he beat and slapped his spouse in her face during a domestic dispute at their home in Nuts River in the parish on June 8.

He was later charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

This morning, he told the court that he was innocent of the allegations.

During the proceedings, the presiding judge asked about the entertainer's mental state.

The Clerk of Court indicated that his wife had raised concerns that the entertainer had reportedly indicated that he abuses cocaine and needs help.

The proceeding was suspended to allow the court to hold a consultation session with the accused and a probation officer.

On resumption, it was indicated that the case would be transferred to the Drug Treatment Court with the entertainer's bail being extended

The matter is to be heard on September 6.
