The police in Portland theorise that the shooting death of a man on Monday afternoon at Muriton Pen may be a contract killing.
The alleged attacker, who is from Greenwich Farm in Kingston, remains in police custody.
Twenty-eight-year-old Ryan Sinclair, a farmer, was one of two men shot by a lone gunman while in a shop along the Muriton Pen main road about 5:13 p.m.
Police sources said the alleged attacker entered the shop and reportedly ordered a cigarette.
While being served, he reportedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot both men.
The police said Sinclair fell to the ground and the other man reportedly attacked the gunman and wrestled him to the floor, disarming him in the process.
The injured man managed to pin the gunman to the ground while calling for help.
An off-duty policeman reportedly came to his assistance, accosting the gunman and seizing his weapon.
The injured men were taken to hospital where Sinclair was pronounced dead and the other man, who was shot in the head, was admitted in a critical but stable condition.
