Police constable charged with assault, robbery remanded
The St Thomas police constable implicated in the robbery of a businesswoman at her home in Manchioneal, Portland was remanded when he appeared in the Portland Parish Court this afternoon.
Thirty-one-year-old, Ramon Walker, who is charged with robbery and aggravated assault, was ordered to return to court on Wednesday, August 15, when a bail application is to be made.
Walker was arrested by detectives from the Criminal Investigative Branch in Port Antonio following the robbery outside the house of the businesswoman.
The police say shortly after 3 a.m. on July 16 the woman was pounced upon by armed thugs outside her house and robbed of $700,000 in cash.
The men then escaped.
Walker was later arrested by the police.
The constable was on suspension at the time of the incident.
In 2014, Walker was implicated in a major car stealing ring operating between Kingston, St Thomas, Clarendon, and Portland.
Investigators believed he was the mastermind.
