Portmore man who allegedly attempted to export ganja in tins of cheese charged
The Portmore, St Catherine man who was arrested while allegedly attempting to export a quantity of ganja in tins of cheese has been charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Fifty-six-year-old Donovan Dacosta, a vendor and construction worker of a Passagefort address, who was arrested by the Narcotics Police on Saturday, August 4, has been charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps preparatory to export ganja.
It is reported that Dacosta went to a shipping agency at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston where he allegedly attempted to ship a package containing several tins of cheese and baked goods to St. Maarten.
The police say during processing anomalies were discovered and narcotics investigators were called in.
According to the police, 61 pounds of ganja were found hidden inside 17 of the tins of cheese.
Decosta was arrested.
The police say the drugs have an estimated street value of $244, 000.
