The police have made a public appeal to residents of Arnett Gardens in St Andrew to come forward and assist investigators probing the gruesome killing of a 14-year-old girl in the community yesterday.

The nude, partially-burnt body of Yetanya Francis was found by residents in an open lot in the south St Andrew community by residents shortly before midday.

The police and relatives say Yetanya, a student of Kingston Technical High School, left her home on Thursday evening to go to a nearby shop to purchase food.

When she did not return home a search was launched by residents.

Some residents told The Gleaner they heard shouts of rape and cries for help coming from the open lot, but said that the shouts quickly dissipated in the darkness of 12th Street, which they claimed has been without street lights for many months.

The Denham Town Police, who are probing the killing, are appealing to persons who may have seen or heard anything to contact the Denham Town Police Criminal Investigations Branch at 876-948-6443 or 876-922-6441, police emergency number 119, Crime Stop at 311, 811 or the nearest police station.
