Woman killed in head on collision

A St Elizabeth woman died yesterday after a head on collision between a motorcycle and a car.

She has been identified as Shanique Fagan, 26, of Fagan Town, near Santa Cruz.

The driver of the motorcycle has been hospitalised in serious condition.

It’s believed that Fagan and the driver of the motorcycle were not wearing protective helmets.

It’s reported that shortly before 10:00 p.m. last night the motorcycle, with Fagan as the pillion, was travelling along Coke Drive when it collided head on with a car going in the opposite direction.

According to reports, both Fagan and the male driver were flung from the motorcycle on impact and suffered numerous head injuries

Fagan died while being treated at the Black River Hospital where the driver of the motorcycle was also admitted in serious condition.

Since the start of the year 16 persons have died in motor vehicle crashes in St Elizabeth, five more than was recorded for the corresponding period last year.

A total of 218 persons have died in 193 fatal crashes nationwide since January 1.

According to the Road Safety Unit in the Transport Ministry, fatal crashes are down ten per cent compared to the similar period last year while road deaths have decreased six per cent.
