Rapist disarmed, believed shot by tourist at Mobay hotel

The hunt is on for a Riu hotel entertainment coordinator who was disarmed and shot last night as he reportedly raped a woman at the Montego Bay, St James resort.

The police report that two female tourists were in their room about 11:55 p.m. when the gunman barged in.

He reportedly raped one of the women and was raping the other when the weapon fell from his hand.

The police say the woman who was first raped immediately picked up the gun and pointed it at the gunman.

It is reported that he immediately sought to disarm her, but she fired the gun twice.

The gunman reportedly ran from the room and jumped over the balcony before escaping in bushes adjacent to the property.

The police believe he was hit based on the amount of blood discovered on the ground floor.

Police investigators say the man was employed only two days ago as an entertainment coordinator.

“It was not someone who walked in off the street,” a cop told The Gleaner.

The cop also reported that the gun used in the incident was stolen from the room of a licensed firearm holder who was also a guest at the hotel.

The nine millimetre Glock pistol loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition were handed over to the police by one of the women.

Attempts to get a comment from the hotel were unsuccessful as the members of the management were said to be in a meeting.

Person of interest named in hotel attack

The police have named entertainment coordinator Demar Scott as a person of interest in the rape and gun attack on two female tourists at the Riu hotel in Montego Bay.

On one identification card, his address is listed as Exchange, Ocho Rios, St Ann while on the other, his address is listed as Comfort, Williamsfield, Manchester.

Investigators believe Scott, 33, can assist them in the investigation.

He is being asked to contact detectives at the Freeport Police Station by 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
