Dream Weekend Security Guard Mike Chin has been granted bail in the sum of $300,000 in connection with the murder of 37-year-old businessman Jean Mathieu.

Chin, represented by attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie, appeared in the Westmoreland Parish Court this morning.

He is to return on November 9.

In applying for bail, Champagnie told the court that Chin was acting in self defence when he shot the businessman of Millsborough Crescent in St Andrew and Montreal, Canada.

Champagnie also cited statements collected, which he said supported his client's instructions that the shooting was in self defence.

In the meantime, the attorney has requested a copy of the report on the toxicology test on the deceased.

Chin has been ordered to surrender his travel documents and a stop order imposed against leaving the jurisdiction.

Mathieu was fatally shot during an altercation with the security guard at one of the popular Dream Weekend parties in August.

He is reported to have attempted to bring a female into the VIP area without an armband and was denied by the guard.

It's alleged that during the altercation, the businessman pulled a gun and pointed it at the guard.

The guard then reportedly pulled his licensed firearm and shot Mathieu.
