Nominations for GraceKennedy's household workers' award close next Wednesday
Nominations for the fifth annual GraceKennedy/Heather Little-White Household Workers Awards is scheduled to close next Wednesday.
The awards honour household workers, male and female, for their invaluable contribution to national development and family life.
Group Chief Executive Officer of GraceKennedy (GKL), Don Wehby has reaffirmed his company’s continued commitment to the initiative, which raises awareness for the impact household workers have on nation-building and honours Dr Little-White’s years of service to the conglomerate.
“GraceKennedy is a family company, which supports the building of strong families — the foundation of our country,” said Webhy.
“The awards programme is an opportunity to salute household workers, the unsung heroes who give of their time, talent and experience to the families of Jamaica. Their contribution to overall productivity may not appear on any official documentation, but we know that it is tremendous,” he added.
President of the Jamaica Household Workers Union (JHWU), Shirley Pryce lauded GraceKennedy for its continued support.
“It’s really good to know that these hardworking Jamaicans are being recognised in this way and we strongly believe that the awards will inspire others to see this as a viable and decent way of earning a living. Thanks to GraceKennedy for making this long time dream of ours a reality,” Pryce said.
“We are certainly very pleased with the continuation of the GraceKennedy/Heather Little-White Household Worker Awards. Our members look forward to it with great anticipation and excitement,” she added.
The awards are open to full-time or partime household workers.
The first and second placed male and female winners will receive over $1 million in prizes.
Cash prizes will also be presented to the first place winners for either their educational advancement or a student they designate.
Nominations opened in October to all members of the public.
Nominations should be submitted to GraceKennedy’s head office, located at 73 Harbour Street, in downtown Kingston or via email to gracekennedy@gkco.com.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel of judges to be selected by GKL.
