The Yemeni mother of a terminally-ill toddler in the United States (US) has arrived in the state of California to visit him after she was granted a travel waiver by the Trump administration.

Shaima Swileh, who currently lives in Egypt, was initially prevented from entering America under a controversial order signed by US President Donald Trump, which blocks entry to the US by people from several Muslim-majority countries.

According to reports, Swileh spent one year fighting to get the travel waiver.

Her son, two-year-old Abdullah Hassan, was born with a brain disease that doctors say he will not survive.

On Wednesday she landed at San Francisco International Airport and was greeted by crowds of well-wishers.

Since then Swileh has been photographed hugging her son at the children's hospital where the two-year-old is currently on life support.

Abdullah's father, Ali Hassan, 22, says his wife’s visit will allow them to "mourn with dignity".

The advocacy group Council on American-Islamic Relations, which is representing the family, says the US State Department granted Swileh permission to enter America.
