Transport Minister Robert Montague is to hold a national conference for the public passenger sector in light of the passage of the New Road Traffic Act.

All stakeholders in the transport industry will be invited and encouraged to participate.

“It is full time we sit down and provide viable solutions for this essential service. We have to share our ideas and work together to revolutionise the industry,” said Montague.

The ministry in a statement explained that points for discussion will include the recently passed road traffic act, retooling of the industry, licensing, insurance and banking rates, as well as consolidation of fees, discipline, road fatalities, shortness of drivers, uniforms, and wrecking of vehicles.

It says it intends to have similar meetings at intervals in order to have a better account and input from public transport operators.
