Murder cases continue to dominate matters before the Home Circuit Court in Kingston.

Speaking at the opening of the Hilary Term at a ceremony this morning, Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jeremy Taylor disclosed that of the 996 matters before the court, murders account for 556 cases.

The term runs from January to April.

Just behind murders are sexual offences, which account for 333 cases.

Meanwhile, it was disclosed that only 115 of the 1090 cases from the Michaelmas term, which ended in December, were disposed of.

It was pointed out that 21 new cases have been committed for trial this term.
