The People’s National Party Caucus at the Clarendon Municipal Corporation is calling for the government to provide additional resources to the health department to increase fogging and other vector control activities across the parish in light of the dengue situation.

Councillor for the Hayes Division and Chairman of the Caucus Scean Barnswell stated that the statistics reported by the Senior Medical Officer Dr Kimberly Scarlett Campbell are alarming.

He said that in 2017, there were 50 suspected cases of dengue reported to the authorities and in 2018, the records show that there were 80 suspected cases.

This, he said, is in contrast to the month of January 2019 where 123 suspected cases have been recorded.

Barnswell said the situation was made worse because of the non-collection of garbage in many areas in the parish.

He said that this is clear indication that the parish is facing a health crisis that requires immediate attention in order to reduce the risk to residents.
