The police have confirmed that the baby who was stolen from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital on Wednesday, January 9 has been found.

On Tuesday, the woman tried to register the child at the Registrar General's Department (RGD).

The woman was arrested and DNA tests conducted on the child, the mother who gave birth at the hospital and her and her partner.

An alarm was raised after the woman provided conflicting information to RGD officials as she tried to register the child.

Meanwhile, the woman in whose custody the stolen baby was found remains in police lock up as investigators continue their probe.

The police say she will face an identification parade as soon as arrangements are finalised.

The baby remains in state care while the relevant procedures are completed.

The child's mother had left the ward to use the bathroom around 4.30 a.m.

When she returned the child was missing.
