Sudden death of St Ann's Bay Hospital boss devastates health sector officials

Chief executive officer of the St Ann's Bay Regional Hospital, Leo Garel died this morning after experiencing medical complications. 

Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton said Garel's death was sudden and unexpected. 

"I was notified when it happened this morning and I am really saddened by the news. I am just awaiting some more details," Tufton told The Gleaner.

The minister expressed his support and condolences to Garel's family, friends and staff of the St Ann's Bay Hospital. 

"It is really sad," he said. 

Some of the technocrats in the North East Regional Health Authority  are currently making their way to the hospital to lend their support. Among them is the regional director, Fabia Lamm who told The Gleaner she was devastated when contacted earlier. 

"They must be devastated because he is a good manager and clearly close to this staff. He is an important part of the team," Tufton said.
