#EastPortlandBattle | Vaz looking forward to 'historic' win
The Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Ann-Marie Vaz is confident she will become the first woman to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern.
Vaz is contesting the seat against the People’s National Party (PNP’s) Damion Crawford in the by-election now under way.
The by-election was called to elect a replacement for Dr Lynvale Bloomfield who was killed on February 2.

“I will go down in history; I will be the first woman elected to be member of parliament in 75 years since this seat was established. I will ensure that my tenure will be as such that I will not be the last woman to hold the seat,” Vaz told reporters after casting her vote.
And if she losses: "I will continue this work because I am committed to the people of Eastern Portland," she said.
