Man killed, cop injured in early morning shooting downtown Kingston
A man who allegedly pulled a firearm and opened fire at a police team was shot and killed in downtown Kingston this morning.
A police constable assigned to the Kingston Western Division was reportedly injured in the incident.
The dead man has been identified as Nicholas Henry, 34, of Devon Avenue, Kingston.
The constable’s name has not been released.
The police say a 9mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition was seized.
According to the police Corporate Communication Unit (CCU), a police team attempted to accost Henry who was seen along Orange Street acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion.
Henry reportedly pulled a gun and opened fire, hitting the constable.
CCU says the incident has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigation.
