New home coming for police's St Catherine divisional headquarters
The St Catherine divisional headquarters of the Jamaica Constabulary Force is to be relocated with cabinet giving approval for the acquisition of five acres in Spanish Town to house the new facility.
Minister with responsibility for Information Karl Samuda indicated that the lands are located in Darling’s Pen.
Samuda, who was speaking at a post-cabinet press conference this morning, said the move is in keeping with the efforts by the Government to provide a more suitable working environment for police personnel.
“That’s an area that has been of concern to the country for some time and we are doing everything we can in our power to ensure that the environment in which the national security personnel operates is up to a certain standard. That facility in Spanish Town is in dire need of repair and it does not provide adequate parking,” said Samuda.
“So the decision was taken to find an alternative location because expansion was not possible at the Spanish Town location where it now exists,” he added.
