The Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) candidate for St. Andrew East Rural, Juliet Holness, is certain that she will secure a second term as Member of Parliament for the constituency.

“We are very positive, we are expecting our voters to come out. Some persons continue to be very apprehensive, but we are looking forward to being victorious at the end of the day,” Holness said, minutes after casting her vote at Mona High School.

JLP turncoat Joan Gordon-Webley is challenging Holness on a People’s National Party (PNP) ticket.

The incumbent said senior citizens and those who have pre-existing conditions have been encouraged to vote and she has provided the necessary sanitisation protocols for the vehicles that will be transporting voters.

“I would love to enhance my majority, but as I said, COVID times are different, so what is very important, is that I win,” she explained.

In the 2016 polls, Holness secured 10,101 votes to the PNP’s Imani Duncan-Price’s 9,432.

Holness took the Mavis Bank, Dallas, and Kintyre divisions with an average margin of 400 votes, and Gordon Town by more than 700.
