Vaccination delay... Why the gov't has put second dose on hold for people under 50
The Health Ministry has announced a delay in the administration of the second dose of the COVID vaccine for people under 50 years old as supplies run low.
At the weekly COVID Conversation, Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton said the priority is being given to the vulnerable.
The second dose of the COVID vaccine becomes due eight to 12 weeks after the first dose.
Those affected by the delay in the schedule for the second inoculation are now in their eighth to 10th week since their first dose.
The Health Minister has sought to assure that efforts are now being pursued to secure additional vaccines to administer the second doses around the 12th week.
In the meantime, people under 50 who were previously advised by text messages to show up for their second dose at the upcoming weekend blitz, are being advised to disregard the advisory.
They will get a second text message confirming the delay.
