Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination to resume on Monday
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is set to resume the administration of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.
Speaking at a virtual COVID-19 press conference this morning, Portfolio Minister Dr Christopher Tufton said some 45,630 doses have been donated to Jamaica by the Government of Suriname and 100,620 have been procured through the COVAX facility.
The doses are expected to arrive in the island this weekend.
Some 85,000 Jamaicans are due second shots of the Pfizer vaccine.
Tufton said priority will be given to those who are due their second jab, with the remainder going to children between 12 and 18 years.
He said this is a policy directive from Cabinet.
“So, if you have not gotten a dose, you should not try to get a dose of the Pfizer vaccine at this point in time,” he said while urging those who are due their second dose to make an appointment.
He said the ministry will be stocking vaccines at various locations according to appointments.
At the same time, he disclosed that the United States is expected to ship approximately 200,000 of the vaccine in early November.
Tufton said this batch will also be administered to children only.
