Holness: even when the Disaster Risk Management Act is lifted, the wearing of masks will continue until there is the certainty that the pandemic has passed.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced new COVID containment measures.

They will take effect on February 25, 2022 and will come to an end on March 17, 2022.

Here are the new measures:

1. New nightly curfew – midnight to 5 a.m.

2. Gathering limit for funerals and burials up from 20 people to 100.
(Burials are permitted Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 4 pm)

3. Limit for public sector events up from 50 to 100
(The 100-person limit for weddings and company AGMs will remain.)

4. JamCOVID authorisation to be abandoned as of March 1, 2022.

5. Travel-related quarantine to be eliminated as of March 1, 2022.

The Prime Minister said the COVID pre test no more than 72 hours old will continue to be required for people travelling to Jamaica.

Meanwhile, Holness said even when the Disaster Risk Management Act is lifted, the wearing of masks will continue until there is the certainty that the pandemic has passed.

He said the government is mindful that schools will resume full face-to-face teaching and learning after the mid-term holidays and so it is important that there is caution in lifting the measures.
