The High Commission of India in Jamaica on Saturday collaborated with Arava to host a blood donation drive at the National Chest Hospital in St Andrew.

The drive, the first organised by the high commision, is part of its endeavour to serve and give back to the community, including through 32 previously conducted free health fairs. However, in November, a special month, being the month when the Constitution of India was adopted, the high commission said it wanted to try something new, leading to the blood-donation drive.

“In doing this, we keep in view that we are nearing holiday season and with unfortunate expected increase in road accidents, requirement of blood in the country will also go up,” the high commission stated.

As a token of appreciation, donors were provided with a T-shirt, a $2,500 meal vouchers sponsored by Royal Paraduse restaurant, Tamarind and Nirvana Restsurant. Energy drinks were donated by GraceKennedy.

The drive was a success with 65 donors giving blood.
