21-y-o accused of fraud in car deal offered $400,000 bail

A 21-year-old Spanish Town woman accused of fraud in a motor vehicle deal was on Tuesday granted $400,000 bail in the St Catherine Parish Court.
Taneka Williamson, who is charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence, was ordered to report to the Spanish Town Police Station twice weekly and reappear in court on March 1.
In applying for bail, her attorney Denise Hinson argued that her client was naive and it was a relative who defrauded the complainant and used her account.
Allegations are that the complainant paid $2 million for the purchase of a motor vehicle.
No vehicle was provided and the funds were not returned.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police and the accused was arrested and charged.
