Former Member of Parliament for Western St Mary Jolyan Silvera was this afternoon picked up by detectives assigned to the Major Investigation Division (MID) as part of the probe into the death of his wife Melissa Silvera.

He is currently being questioned.

According to sources, charges could be laid against him.

Initial reports were that Melissa, 42, died in her sleep at their home on November 10 last year of natural cause, a month shy of her eighth anniversary.

An autopsy performed three weeks after her death unearthed at least three bullet fragments in her body, causing the police to upgrade the case to a murder investigation.

The police questioned Silvera on two previous occasions as part of the probe.

At that time, Silvera's attorney Peter Champagnie said his client was not being treated as a suspect.

His licensed firearm was seized for ballistic testing.

Melissa was laid to rest last Friday following a thanksgiving at the St Andrew Parish church.

Silvera attended the funeral and was seen weeping on several occasions.
