The governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has summoned its candidates slated to contest the next local government election to a “special” meeting with leader and Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Montego Bay Conference Centre in St James.

The notice was sent via email under the direction of JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang.

“All prospective candidates for the upcoming parish council elections are expected to be in attendance,” an email from Everald Warmington, chairman of the JLP's Area Council Two, said.

At the weekend, a Gleaner source confirmed that the meeting was scheduled for Thursday and indicated that a date for the election, constitutionally due by February 28, is expected to be announced at the gathering.
