Spanish Town High to benefit on Optimist Day
The Optimist Club of Kingston (OCK) will today celebrate Optimist Day by making a donation of $100,000 to Spanish Town High School in St Catherine.
The donation is a joint effort with the OCK’s patron, Lady Allen, wife of the governor general.
Optimist Day is celebrated worldwide on the first Thursday of February each year.
Optimist clubs and members celebrate the day by promoting their efforts and bringing awareness on the importance of making a difference in the lives of youths and their communities.
“Using our motto ‘Friend of Youth’ and ‘Bringing out the Best in Children’, OCK seeks to undertake projects to address the various needs of our youths, especially in institutions such as schools, children’s homes, institutions for children with special needs and community groups,” the OCK said.
The OCK is a service club, affiliated with Optimist International, which is a worldwide volunteer organisation made up of more than 2,500 local clubs whose members work each day to make the future brighter by bringing out the best in children, in their communities, and in themselves.
The OCK was chartered on August 10, 1980, as the first Optimist Club in Jamaica and the Caribbean. It will be celebrating its 44th anniversary on August 10 this year.
