Westmoreland 53-y-o charged for alleged rape, beating of woman
A 53-year-old Westmoreland man accused of cutting off a woman's clothes, beating her and then allegedly raping her inside his home has been charged by the police.
James Bromfield, otherwise called 'Root', a construction worker of Whitehall district in Negril, has been charged with rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and malicious destruction of property.
He was charged on Thursday.
The Savanna-la-Mar Criminal Investigations Branch is reporting that about 5 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023, the woman was asleep at Bromfield's home when she was awoken by him, who then demanded sex.
The woman refused and Bromfield used a knife to cut and remove her clothing and proceeded to punch her several times, according to the police.
He then allegedly held her down and sexually assaulted her.
The woman made a report and Bromfield was arrested on Tuesday, February 20 during a targeted raid at his home.
He was subsequently charged and is currently awaiting a court date.
