Political leaders react to the death of Morgan Heritage's Peetah Morgan
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says his "heart is heavy" at news of the death of Morgan Heritage lead singer, Peetah Morgan, today.
Holness reacted to the news on his social media pages and expressed condolences to the Morgan family "as they grieve this tremendous loss which is also a colossal loss for Jamaica and for reggae music."
"Our country is grateful for his life and contribution and the sharing of his exceptional musical talent which touched each of us," Holness said.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Mark Golding said "His legacy and contributions to reggae music will forever echo in our hearts."
"Peetah, along with his siblings Una Morgan, Roy 'Gramps' Morgan, Nakhamyah 'Lukes' Morgan, and Memmalatel 'Mr Mojo' Morgan, formed a musical powerhouse that resonated globally," Golding said.
Morgan was a son of renowned Jamaican reggae singer Denroy Morgan.
He and his siblings formed Morgan Heritage in 1994, and the band won a Grammy for best reggae album in 2016 for Strictly Roots.
