Work is now under way on the Portmore Resilience Park in St Catherine. The $4.4-billion project, which was launched by Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently, will provide space for recreation, sports, wellness and entertainment. It should be completed by 2025.

The Government will be spending an estimated $550 million in the upcoming fiscal year on the Portmore Resilience Park’s construction.

The intention is to create a 21-acre green recreational space for the residents of the Portmore community in St Catherine and visitors, inclusive of three acres of commercial development.

Details of the undertaking are contained in the 2024/25 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

It is anticipated that the project, which is being implemented by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), will achieve 12 per cent completion of the construction in 2024/25.

Meanwhile, an estimated $1 billion is being earmarked to undertake work in 2025/26, if necessary.

The Portmore Resilience Park is a climate-smart facility which is set to become a multifaceted recreational and wellness hub, addressing the community’s need for safe, well-built social spaces.

The Resilience Park has an expected completion date by September 2025, coinciding with the end of the five-year parliamentary term.

Resilience Park is a project of the Government of Jamaica through the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation and the Urban Development Corporation.
