65-year-old man perishes in suspected arson attack in Toll Gate
A 65-year-old man perished in a suspected arson attack that left a four-bedroom house gutted in Toll Gate, Clarendon, on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Roy Thompson, a carpenter of Old Road in Toll Gate.
Another occupant, a 64-year-old amputee, managed to escape the blaze.
The police say about 2 a.m. on Sunday, the occupants heard a crashing sound in a section of the house.
Checks revealed that the sound came from a Molotov cocktail, with flames immediately engulfing a section of the house.
Both men reportedly initially escaped the blaze, but Thompson went back inside the burning house in an effort to retrieve some items. A section of the building collapsed on him.
The police and fire team were summoned to the scene, and Thompson's burnt body was retrieved from the rubble.
