Clean-up project for May Pen town centre
A clean-up project aimed at enhancing the visual appeal of the May Pen town centre in Clarendon is scheduled to commence this Sunday.
The initiative is being spearheaded by the Clarendon Municipal Corporation in partnership with various organisations, including the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) and Operation Save a Youth (OSAY) - an endeavour by the Seventh-day Adventist community - and the Jamaica Public Service (JPS).
The announcement was made by Mayor of May Pen Joel Williams while addressing Thursday's sitting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation.
Williams expressed unrelenting dedication to transforming the central parish into a hub where people can seek growth, prosperity, and a promising future.
"May Pen deserves to shine, and together, we will reclaim the beauty that defines us, and a public space that will reflect the pride we have in our communities. We are committed to enhancing the aesthetics of May Pen. Our town is not just a place we live, it is a reflection of our identity, a visual masterpiece, and a testament to our collective decision to progress and prosperity," said Williams.
Williams also emphasised that revitalising the May Pen Market will be a primary focus, aiming to enhance the economic vitality of the parish.
"We are dedicated to making the market more customer friendly with improved infrastructure to enhance the services. We will ensure a positive experience for both vendors and shoppers. A thriving market is a symbol of economic vibrancy, and together, we will empower our local businesses, and [elevate] the livelihood of our residents,'' said Williams.
