UTech lecturers to go on strike Monday
Academic staff at the University of Technology (UTech), Jamaica have voted to withdraw their services beginning on Monday.
The protest is being triggered by “the extended delays to resolve the critical issues surrounding the compensation review”, a communique from the Academic Staff Union said.
The decision was made at a meeting on Thursday, where the majority voted in favour of industrial action.
“The withdrawal of services is a direct action aimed at highlighting the urgency of our issues and the need for immediate dialogue and resolution,” the document seen by The Gleaner said.
It instructed union members to remain at home on Monday and to refrain from undertaking any work-related tasks or responsibilities including teaching, administrative duties, or participation in any university-related committees or events.
It said that the union's leadership will continue to engage with the university's management to seek a resolution of concerns.
