KC celebrates hard-fought Champs victory
Kingston College (KC) celebrated their 35th hold on the coveted Mortimer Geddes Trophy at a vibrant morning devotion at their North Street campus on Monday.
The all-boys institution on Saturday defended the boys' title at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships, after five days of competition inside the National Stadium.
Kingston College amassed 335 points to lift the trophy.
There was a large cutout of the number 35 at the celebratory gathering today.
This morning saw athletes, students, teachers, parents and past students donning the signature purple in celebration of KC's high school track and field dominance.
Principal Dave Myrie said, “We got Old Boys around (the campus) from all over and we just want to thank them for their constant support of Kingston College."
Myrie also thanked the coaches and volunteers.
“I want to highlight Coach (Leford) Grant. Well done Leford, again. I want to thank our two captains… a big round of applause for leading the team… The biggest round of applause I want to give is to the team,” Myrie said.
Coach Grant, a KC old boy himself, said the victory was hard fought and also extended gratitude to all the players and stakeholders.
Team co-captain Uri Lawrence, who is now in his final year, thanked the gathering for turning out to celebrate the victory.
“Everybody looking good and happy. I can say I am really happy for this title, the 35th. It has really been a journey for me… I look at each and everyone as family. I am really happy to be a part or this family,” Lawrence said.
There were chants of “Fortis! Fortis!”, a play on the first word of the school's motto.
There was also the ceremonial cake cutting which brought the celebrations to a close.
Their 35th win extends the margin for the school with the most Champs titles.
They are followed by Calabar High with 28, Jamaica College with 22 and Wolmer's Boys' School with 11.
