Mayor of Falmouth Collen Gager is planning to reach out to members of the public for help to repair the ceiling of the Falmouth Town Hall.

The ceiling collapsed in March 2023.

The building, which is one of Falmouth's historic Georgian structures, is shared by the Trelawny Municipal Corporation and the Falmouth Parish Court. It also serves as a town hall and a centre for cultural activities.

The mayor says he's hoping an announcement can be made shortly regarding the repairs.

"We have to move fast to get the repairs going. We will be writing letters to various persons and opening an opportunity for anyone with an interest in preserving these Georgian style buildings. We are having conversations and hopefully an announcement will be made shortly," the mayor told The Gleaner.

The collapse of the ceiling of the building, which was erected in 1881, has forced activities like regular court proceedings to be transferred to the Duncans Court House.

At present, the meetings of the Trelawny Municipal Corporation are held in the converted passageway of the building.
